hong kong avenue of stars waterfront promenade
The Avenue of Stars ( AoS ), one of the most visited tourist destinations in Hong Kong has announced its reopening recently after three years of construction. The new design offers a revitalised urban space that allows visitors to experience the transcendence of Hong Kong's busiest and most exciting cultural waterfront. Funded by New World Development's AOS Management Company Limited, the AoS features the work of renowned New York High Line architect James Corner and other famed designers, who have injected vitality, aesthetics and practicality into the space.

The 457-metre-long promenade first opened in 1982, and in 2004, it was named the AoS and modelled after the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The revitalised AoS continues to offer spectacular views of the skyline and Victoria Harbour with new highlights:

World-Class Design Teams
  • There has been a complete redesign of the AoS by James Corner Field Operations, involving extensive planting, generous shade and seating, and an accessible undulating sculptural edge. The design creates a spectacular waterfront promenade that enhances connections and sociability.
  • A special lighting system by Speirs & Majors is concealed inside the cladding, illuminating the water flowing beneath the pedestrian deck after dark.
  • Inspired by Hong Kong's market stalls, Harbour Kiosk, designed by LAAB, automatically transforms its "gate" into an "awning" during the day and returns to its compact shape at night.

Reliving My Favorite Music at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum

country music hall of fame museum nashville tennessee
So I’ll be the first to admit - they just don’t make country music like they used to. “Southern Pop;” “Tractor Rap;” “Progressive Country; “Bro Country” - call it what you will, I just can’t seem to find the tolerance I need to listen the majority of artists I hear popping up on Country radio nowadays. I’ve found that the best way to indulge in the classic Country that I love most is with a trip to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee.

It’s not that I think all modern Country is all bad - it’s just not what I like. In my mind, there’s no such thing as right or wrong when it comes to making music, or any sort of art in general. There’s simply what you like, and what you don’t like. When it comes to the modern stuff, I’ll be polite, and just leave it at, “I don’t much care for it.”

Fortunately, Country is one of those genres of music that not only wears its inspirations on its sleeves, but openly pays tribute to the great songwriters and musicians that have come before. Even modern country artists, to their credit, continue this tradition in their album notes, and by featuring at least one cover song on every album. Artists both young and old always point out and thank the music makers that came before them at every awards show. Most importantly, the great tradition that is Country music continues to not only survive, but thrive.

So, while I can’t say that I’m much for the stuff playing on satellite radio today, I rest easy in the knowledge that Country, as both an art form and arch point to an entire history and culture of people, will continue to be preserved, passed on, and enjoyed for generations to come.

Nowhere is this more apparent than in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. They recently opened a new exhibit called Outlaws and Armadillos: Country’s Roaring ‘70s, and though I’ve gone back several times over the years, it had been awhile, and this was the perfect excuse to make a return trip to this very special place.

How Important is Early Critical Illness Cover?

proinvest insurance coverage early critical illness
Did you know that at least 36 people are diagnosed with cancer every day in Singapore? On the other hand, research has shown that while cancer diagnoses have increased over the years, the survival rate has also risen in proportion so much so that on average, the 5 year survival rate is more than 50%.

There is a common saying in Singapore that it is better to die from a critical illness than to be plagued by hefty medical bills. There is no denying that seeking medical treatment in this tiny red dot can a very expensive affair, more often than not causing many to experience cash flow anxiety or even landing in massive debts. However, all hope (and money) is not lost when it comes to having the right insurance plan that helps to alleviate your costs and liabilities.

Most of us are covered for hospitalization insurance such as MediShield Life, Integrated Plans or employee benefits. This provides the first step in “buying back” our health by removing partially or completely the cost of treatment in a hospital. Yet having this base alone may not be sufficient, just like having rice alone may not be able to provide the full nutritional benefits required in a good meal even if it can undoubtedly keep our stomachs full.

This is where critical illness insurance, especially Early Critical Illness insurance can come in to fill the gaps and complete the financial risk management plan if the unpredictability of a critical illness strikes.

The bridge is the first major combined road and tunnel sea-crossing in the Greater Bay Area, spanning the sea from an artificial island near Hong Kong International Airport to Macao and the mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai. At 55 km, it is 20 times longer than San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.

It contains enough steel to build 60 Eiffel Towers and is designed to last 120 years, two decades longer than the lifespan of most major cross-sea bridges. The mega-project will become an instant and iconic landmark for Hong Kong and the Greater Bay area and has already been named by the Guardian as one of the architectural Seven Wonders of the Modern World.

The bridge will consolidate Hong Kong's position as a hub for multi-destination travel within the Greater Bay Area, which includes nine cities in the Guangdong Province and two Special Administrative Regions. It shortens the journey from Hong Kong International Airport to Zhuhai from four hours to just 45 minutes.

Bone Setter Chris Leong to Fix Frozen Shoulder ( 跌打CLM式骨正馆 )

singapore lifestyle blogger reviews chris leong tit tar
Bone setting is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine, widely popular in Asia to cure the disbalance of the skeleton, muscles and joints. Patients go to a Bone Setter for fractures, dislocations or musculoskeletal injuries in general.

Being in the 50s and going through the menopause phase is no joke as my health seemed to have taken a toll overnight. After a recent surgery to remove a Ganglion Cyst in March, I have been down with shoulder pain for some months now. Did X-rays, Ultrasound and even Bone Density Test but results were all good. I have also tried Shockwave Therapy, Radio Frequency, Acupuncture, Tui Na etc, but nothing seemed to help. Then I stumbled upon Bone Setter Chris Leong of CL Method Tit Tar ( 跌打CLM式骨正馆 ), a prominent figure in Facebook with numerous viral videos showing his bone setting treatments.

I found out about Master Chris Leong’s Tit Tar Tour, and managed to secure a slot to see him. This post is about my bone setting experience with Master Chris to treat what he had diagnosed as a Frozen Shoulder ( 肩周炎 ), with videos of my “ adventure “.

Adhesive Capsulitis in medical term, Frozen Shoulder is also commonly known as 五十肩, literally translating to Fifty-Year-Old Shoulder, because this condition tends to happen to people around the age of 50. Having a frozen shoulder can be a painful experience, but bone setting is definitely not for the faint-hearted, so fasten your seat-belt as I bring you through my Bone Setting Experience with Chris Leong Method Tit Tar!

Purple Sage Elevates Catering Service With New Concepts

purple sage catering service apple yuzu appetizer
Purple Sage today elevated Singapore’s food service by bringing the ‘farm to plate’ concept into catering as it unveiled its new logo at a showcase event. While consumers today are particular about the freshness of the ingredients used in the cooking, feasting with all the senses is as important as the dishes and setting looking Instagrammable. Clients seek solutions beyond traditional dining experiences. Bearing these in mind, Purple Sage introduced new concepts such as “The Secret Garden”. The team of chefs literally handpicked live ingredients such as varieties of cress such as Cress Coriander and Cress Red Veined Sorrel at the cooking stations. Non-GMO chicken and fresh fish from sustainable sources are combined with food technology to present all-sensory and well-presented holistic gastronomic dishes a la minute (to order).

Mr Alan Tan, Co-Owner and Managing Director of Purple Sage, said: “More and more consumers, particularly millennials, want to know where their food products come from. We have brought the farm to plate concept in a sustainable way into the catering service so as to stay ahead in the industry while supporting local farmers.”

In buffets, it can be observed that there is much wastage especially leftover food that has to be discarded. Purple Sage has come up with a solution by doing away with chafing dish sets. It replaced disposable ware with crockery made of ‘opeh’ (leaves of the Betal Nut Palm).
