Chinese New Year Limpets with Nai Bai Vegetables ( 小鲍炒奶白菜 )

From the lavish Abalone shellfish to the economical Limpets, we got you all covered! There is a yummy recipe bound to suit every budget and palate. Let’s kick off with the inexpensive Limpets, a type of aquatic snails which I call them the Poor Man’s Abalones!

We are lucky to have these shellfish in canned forms; a can of Fortune Brand ( 财神牌 ) Limpets only costs you about SGD 10. You can get between 7 – 15 pieces inside, depending on the brands and their sizes. Top with a dash of red, these Wolfberries aka Goji Berries Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Superfood not only add a festive colour to the dish but also whole lots of medicinal benefits. Let’s check out how easy it is to cook these Limpets with Nai Bai Vegetables ( 小鲍炒奶白菜 ) for your coming Chinese New Year!

Ingredients:
1 canned Limpets
200g Nai Bai or Baby Bok Choy Vegetables
¼ can of Limpet Broth
1 tbsp Wolfberries /Goji Berries
½ tsp Minced Garlic
½ tsp Minced Ginger
1 tsp Oyster Sauce
1 tsp Sesame Oil
1 tsp Chinese Cooking Wine / Shaoxing Hua Diao Wine ( 紹興花雕酒 )
2 tsp Cornstarch
2 tsp Cooking Oil
Dash of Pepper

Method:

  • Chop off end of stems, and then cut Nai Bai into half vertically according to image. Rinse thoroughly.

  • Blanch vegetables in water. Drain.

  • Heat oil and saute garlic till fragrant. Throw in limpets, broth, wolfberries, ginger and seasonings and stir fry for about 3 minutes. Stir in cornstarch and mix well.
