Fine Dining: One-Ninety

One-Ninety at the 5-star Four Seasons Hotel features a breakfast buffet of Asian & Western favourites. The popular café adds touches of chinoiserie, setting the mood of contemporary elegance. one ninety four seasons hotelThis morning, I popped by the 5-star oasis of calm, nestled in a lush garden setting – the Four Seasons. After making a quick survey of the buffet table at One-Ninety, buffet was the obvious choice for me. Not because I’m a glutton but simply because I spotted the local Mee Siam & Fish Congee. Besides, I was feeling a little impatient just by looking at the breakfast crowd – reckoned it was gonna take some time if I were to order the Ala Carte.

While my friend was being seated, I headed straight to get my Mee Siam as I was already feeling hungry. Mee Siam, which means "Siamese noodle", is a dish of vermicelli in spicy, sweet & sour light gravy. It’s one of the popular one-dish meals in Singapore. Originally a Thai dish, it became a Nonya specialty that is now prepared by Indians, Malays as well as Chinese stalls in Singapore. As I finished pouring the gravy onto my bowl of Mee Siam, I added boiled egg & lots of taupok (dried bean curd). Yummy! Gravy was sour enough & it opened up my appetite. one ninety four seasons hotel mee siamMy friend’s Buttermilk Blueberry Pancakes with Whipped Butter, topped with Bananas at the Ala Carte price of S$14+++, arrived just after I finished my Mee Siam. The Pancake looked good, with the blueberry jam oozing out when it was cut. one ninety four seasons hotel pancakesWhile she was enjoying her Pancake, I went to have my Fish Congee. The pot of congee was filled with chunks of fish. I put a ladle full onto my bowl & topped it with salted-egg, spring onion & diced black bean. Congee was tasty & rich. one ninety four seasons hotel congeeAfter my stomach was half-full, I went around the buffet table, snapping these pictures for your viewing pleasure. one ninety four seasons hotel buffets one ninety four seasons hotel buffet one ninety four seasons hotel buffet pastriesI like the fact that the dining hall displays an open kitchen, where you can peep at the chef at work. one ninety four seasons hotel buffet open kitchenI’m not a buffet fan as I don’t eat much. So @ S$45+++ for a round of Mee Siam, Congee, 2 pieces of tim-sum plus 2 glasses of fresh orange juice, guess it’s a high-price to pay. Besides, the variety of the buffet selection isn't as attractive as some. Rating: 2½/5
