Okinawa: The Secret is Out, Featuring Priscilla’s Secret!

singapore travel blog okinawa the secret is out
Fancy going to a beautiful island with natural elements of the Sun, Land and Sea? Located in the southernmost tip of Japan is the Okinawa Prefecture, with Naha being the prefectural capital, and Okinawa Honto where most of the US military bases are located.

Being an avid traveller and having invited to Tokyo to review some of the most interesting hotel rooms during the Hello Kitty's 40th Anniversary, I have to admit I have yet to visit Okinawa although the sunny haven has always been in my travel list. I have thought nothing much of Okinawa before except for their renown beaches and World War II sites. Thanks to Okinawa Tourism, I am glad to learn more through their series of videos featuring Okinawa: The Secret is Out! So who is Priscilla? Read on to find out more, plus some of the amazing videos and places of attractions of Okinawa!

Priscilla is a marketer from Singapore, who has recently made a life-changing decision. Here's sharing her video as she takes her parents to Okinawa to enjoy its food and culture, and to reveal her secret to them in a very special way.......

Makishi Public Market ( 牧志公設市場 )
With more than 400 shops on the main floor, the Makishi Market aka " The Kitchen Of Okinawa " is filled with positive energies that vitalize Okinawa. As visitors enter from Kokusai Street, they are faced with a display of Okinawan cuisine lined up like a colorful chorus line of culinary temptations from tropical seafood, to pork, and simple island vegetables. Hungry visitors only need to step up to the second floor restaurants to satisfy their appetites.

Okinawa World ( おきなわワールド )
Okinawa World is one of the most popular destinations on the Okinawa Main Island. The park's main attractions are a massive natural cave, a craft village and a snake museum. Gyokusendo is a 5 km long limestone cave that was formed approximately 300,000 years ago. Today the spectacular cave offers an 890-meter promenade for the public. Next-door is the Habu Park, a center that reveals the secrets of Okinawa’s most venomous snakes.

There is also a scenic village of old time Okinawa and workshops showcasing Okinawa's traditional industrial heritage and local folk crafts such as glass blowing and pottery. The traditional performance plaza offers high-spirited Eisa dances and other popular attractions.

Various festivals and events are held in Okinawa throughout the year. You can enjoy flowers and whale watching in winter and spring, marine sports and traditional performing arts in summer, and cultural events and field sports in fall.

Have you been to Okinawa? Do you know that the seas surrounding Okinawa's islands are considered among the world's most beautiful with coral reefs and abundant marine wildlife? Calling all scuba divers out there, be sure to make Okinawa your next travel destination!

  29. What a wonderful post, Shirley:) The only "taste" I have ever had of Okinawa is from a community cookbook I have titled What's Cooking on Okinawa published in 1966.

It sounds like a delightful place, Shirley, rich in culture and tradition. Perhaps, someday...

  37. I'll love to go to Okinawa someday! :)

I've always been intrigued by the history behind it, since World War II, and particularly the Japanese people's own attitudes towards the Okinawa Islands, apparently they didn't consider them "Japanese" enough. I believe I heard this from Parts Unknown, not sure as to the truth of the matter.

We're going to Hokkaido in a month's time, it's nice to read up on Japan before that.
