Prima Taste Rendang, Singapore Favourites Meal Sauce Kits

#Rendang is a spicy meat dish popular in countries such as Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore. Rich in spices, the meat dish is drenched in flavourful coconut milk with a subtle hint of galangal and lemongrass scent.

Depending on your cooking preference, Rendang ranges from wet to dry and the variety of meat includes beef, mutton and chicken. My family loves Beef Rendang. Cooking traditional Rendang is often time-consuming as it requires grinding the ingredients and slow cooking the meat, which is why I've never tried preparing it at home. Besides, I'm not confident I can pull off a good job. It's one dish that requires much skill.

After having tried quite a few products from Prima Taste, I'm already their big fan! For my 1st cooking experiment with Beef Rendang, I'm using the Prima Taste Rendang Asian Dry Curry Meal Sauce Kit, and followed their suggestion to use Beef Shin.

I marinated my beef with the Prima Taste Rendang Paste overnight, and then stir-fry the cubes before simmering the meat. The Prima Coconut Premix was also added during the process.

Something interesting to note. Here's the estimated cooking time for different beef cuts:
- Beef Shin (recommended): approx. 2 hrs 15 mins
- Beef Striploin: approx. 20 mins (For easy cooking, beef striploin should be cut to about 6x5cm and 1.5cm thick)
- Beef Knuckle: approx. 2 hrs
- Beef Topside: approx. 1 hr

It took me about 2 hours before my Beef Rendang turned nice and soft. If you prefer the wet version with lots of gravy like me, adjust the water level according to your preference. Although I found the gravy a tad too sweet, I love the fragrant blend of spices and how tender my beef turned out.  Not too bad for a first attempt I guess.

  18. It looks so good!! With ready to use spices it becomes so much easier and your dish looks delicious. The first time I made rendang was after seeing SBS Food Safari on Malaysian cuisine. That made me go on a galangal hunt and finally I am growing the same in a container!:)

  30. Absolutely yummy! I love everything from this brand Shirley! My family has tried almost all of their premix sauces and my favorites are the chilli crab, mee rebus and laksa! They seriously make authentic tasting flavors so easy to put together at home! In the future when I'm elsewhere in the world, I totally will be ordering from them or getting my family to send me my favorites to prepare!
