There are also a handful of restaurants in Citygate. We picked the Golden Shanghai Cuisine Chinese Restaurant and ordered a Noodle Soup, two different types of Fried Rice and a Peking Duck.

In Singapore, only the crispy duck skin is served. You'll be asked how you like the meat to be cooked - stir-fry, cook with fried rice or noodles etc. But in this restaurant, we were told that they won't cook the meat for us. Instead, they packed the duck meat in a plastic bag for the diners to take away after cutting the skin. I thought that was pretty interesting.

  4. Great stores like always, the food delicious
    Cute pics

  5. I so wanna go shopping in these stores! haha :) Great photos, that food looks too good! x

  6. Been to a couple of such outlets in many countries. I somehow find that the things are back stock and pricey. Nothing really I felt worth buying. But sure, nice to walk around and see. Leaving that aside, I love the duck. Over here is the same as in Singapore. In fact the duck meat is chopped or rather minced and seasoned and eaten by rolled into salad leaves.

    1. Unless you're willing to fork out tons of money to splurge on designer goods, I guess there are only past season items that are there out on bargains. I'm not exactly a fashionista who needs to keep up with the latest trends, so I'm fine with it. Hahaha!

Mmm, minced duck meat with salad rolls sound like a great way to serve the remaining meat :)

  7. Wow, all those are wonderful outlets, a shopper's paradise, really !

Nice you are sharing all the fun with us too, please write a detailed travel post with all the tips included, let the backpackers and budget travelers plan a trip to HK asap :)

Well, thanks about the comment on Chinese chilli on my blog. That is how we call it here in the local language. For your information, there are so many things tagged Chinese here in Kerala. Cheenachatti ( a sauce pan like cooking vessel smaller than wok ), Cheena bharani ( a ceramic couldron used for storing pickles and the like ), Chinese fish nets ( I have already blogged about it sometime ago ), Chinese potato ( Koorkka, Plectranthus rotundifolius or Solenostemon rotundifolius ), Cheenikkizhangu / maracheeni ( Tapioca ) etc.
There are many theories about its' introduction here by the Chinese travelers long ago when they came here for trade. Some postulate these were introduced by Portuguese travelers; they might have obtained all these from China and have named them as such that the local people here followed. Whatever, there is a Chinese connection, no doubt about it !

Have you seen anywhere Chinese fish nets in HK? If so please send me a picture or video. I am collecting pictures of similar nets from all over the world. I have seen smaller version of China nets that we have here in some parts of Thailand.
    Cool post :)

    1. Mmm....... it may be difficult for me to write on tips for the budget travellers since I'm not exactly one. I tend to splurge more than save. Hahaha!

Thanks so much for the info, Rajiv! Chinese Potatoes sound really interesting too. Didn't know there's such a great connection between India & China.

Now that you've mentioned, I haven't seen any fish nets in Tai-O. Interesting, since it's a fishing village........ Have a wonderful weekend, dear!

  8. I didn't manage to shop much but i did manage to grab myself a pair of nike air on my visit, pretty cheap at around rm170/ pair.

  9. Its good to have all international brands in one place for tireless shopping...

  10. Really is a shopping paradise! I prefer to takeaway the duck meat like what this restaurant does. I would love to stay in Ovolo hotel but I have a feeling that the price would be quite dear.

    1. Mun, HK hotels are really expensive. Consider it's a one-in-all-hotel, I find the room rates for Ovolo is rather reasonable. You can check out the amenities provided in the link above. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay as much as we did. :)

  11. This place looks like paradise!!!

  12. Wow... amazing place to shop!!!!!!!!!!!
    Happy friday doll!!!

  13. So many stores! Sometimes I wish I had more patience when it comes to shopping.

The food photos opened my appetite! I must try to prepare duck some day. I recently learned in one Croatian culinary show that there are so many different ducks. Some of them have lighter skin and some darker- as my mother explained to me. While we were watching the show, there was one piece of meat that was rather dark, we debated whether it is really duck or something else but it turned out to be duck. Anyhow, the duck served on the photos looks amazing!

    1. Honestly, I'm not into duck unlike my hubby & son. I only eat the crispy skin! Hahaha!

I enjoy attending culinary shows as well. Wish I were there with you, Ivana! xoxo

  14. Looks like you had a great time! The mall looks amazing!!!

  15. Great post dear

  27. Awesome!! I'm so envious! I remember visiting Ocean park and disney world in hong kong when I was younger! I would love to go again! The fried rice and roast duck looked so damn good! I'm not keen on any shopping of discounted designer goods, I'd totally be happy to browse the street markets and beauty stores though! Thanks for sharing the gorgeous photos! I bet your family had a blast!

  28. Oh wow that sounds like my kind of place to shop! I've been thinking more and more about taking my son to Disneyland in Hong Kong, I think I will wait until he is a little older, and I have a little more saved so I can spend a day at the shops here too, hehe! :)
