Prawning at Kranji Farm Resort, Fun Recreational Fishing

singapore fun recreational prawning at kranji farm
Singapore Prawning has certainly caught on in the last couple of years. My son has tried prawning couple of times with his friends and has been telling us about it. It was only until our wedding anniversary some time back that Jon had suggested we do some fun recreational fishing.

A search on the internet found us few places that we could go in Singapore for prawning activities. Hai Bin Prawning has 3 outlets - Ponggol, East Coast and Bishan. We also spotted some online deals from Groupon, All Deals Asia etc.

The nearest venue for us is at D’Fishing Corner, Neo Tiew Lane; located inside Kranji Farm Resort. Their usual price for prawning:  1 hr - SGD 18, 2 hrs - SGD 28, 3hrs - SGD 33.

Jon said we'll need at least 3 hrs, so we bought the deal price of SGD 29 for weekends. It's SGD 27 for weekdays prawning.

We went on a Friday morning to avoid the crowd. It was pretty quiet and we had the entire place to ourselves. Hubby and I are first-timers, so we pretty much depended on our son to guide us.

We caught our 1st prawn within 15 mins. There were hits and misses, and I think we did rather well as beginners; but I've to warn you that it's a tiring affair.

I played along too, but I didn't last very long. Thank goodness I was smart enough to bring along snacks to keep myself occupied. 3 hours of prawning is no joke!

Look what I'd caught - lots of Blue Claw Prawns!! Nay, 90% were actually my son's hard work. Lol!

I could see the thrill and excitement in hubby's face; just like a big kid who found his treasure!

The sizes of these fresh water Blue Claw Prawns vary, some are small but some with relatively good sizes. Removing them from the hook was a real pain as Jon's fingers were chomped by his catch! So he played smart by using some cardboard to distract the pincers before pulling them out. Once bitten, twice shy! Lol!

The staff at Kranji Farm Resort taught us how to prepare our prawns for bbq when we had finished our prawning session. After running the prawns in tap water, we learnt to skewer the shellfish and then added salt before putting them to grill.

Time to #BBQ our catch of the day! Included in the price are charcoal and skewers. BBQ grills are available for customers to cook their catch of the day, heightening the whole level of prawning experience.

In all, we caught about 12 prawns! I think we did a pretty good job as first timers, don't you think so? We paid SGD 29 for 3 hrs, which worked out to about SGD 2.40 per prawn. Hahaha!

kranji farm resort prawning tips for beginners
As there wasn't any crowd, we were given some tips from the staff at D’Fishing Corner during our prawning session. Here's sharing with you some Pawning Tips for Beginners:
  • Longer rod - it seemed to work for us...........
  • Bait can't be too big or the prawns can't eat - I mean real tiny.
  • Bait must cover the hook - the prawns are actually not stupid. Lol!
  • Fix your eyes on the float and let it sink.
  • Don't lift up the rod immediately if a prawn is on hook else it may get loose and swim away.
  • Lastly, if you still can't catch any prawns within the hour, ask for help!!!

If you're first timers like us, wait for an online deal. That way, you won't feel so painful even if you don't get any prawns!

Been fishing once and boy. Tired waiting for the fishes to eat your baits. Haha.
