grand park orchard hotel open house review
Thanks to Grand Park Orchard Hotel, hubby & I were invited for a private food-tasting session at their Open House all day dining restaurant, featuring four live cooking stations, serving a la minute signature dishes including pizzas, sandwiches, dim sum, claypot favourites & roast meat with noodles or rice.

grand park orchard hotel singapore onyx bar
Just before you enter into the Open House, you’ll be greeted by the cozy Onyx Bar featuring an extensive menu of innovative cocktails or premium alcohol.

From the bar, the first thing that caught my attention was the roast meat counter located just at the entrance of the restaurant.

Come, let’s tuck in:

grand park orchard open house roast meat review
A platter had been arranged for us with Char Siew, Roast Duck, Soya Sauce Chicken & Roast Pork. While the rest of the meat were tasty & tender, hubby & I enjoyed their Roast Pork the most with its crackling skin. Try dipping into one of their sauces for an added punch! ★★★★☆

grand park orchard open house pizza station
Both of us aren’t fans of buffet as we don’t eat a lot. Also, the sight of food in large mass somewhat spoils our appetite. However, I was awestruck by the number of live stations in this restaurant & couldn’t wait to try.

grand park orchard open house lemongrass chicken pizza
Take your pick from the #Pizza Station offering 4 different types of freshly-baked pizzas upon your order. The wood-fired Lemongrass Chicken Pizza, which came highly recommended, was indeed something interesting to start off with. If you like sweet, sour & spicy, then you’ll enjoy their thin-crust pizza topped with generous toppings of chicken. ★★★★☆

grand park orchard open house lychee tea
To accompany our dinner, Lychee Ice Teas @ SGD 11.80/Glass were served. The black tea with lychee syrup & bite-sized fresh lychees was an uplifting drink, & we love it! ★★★★★

grand park orchard open house claypot sea cucumber review
I adore claypot dishes, so I was really eager to try theirs. It was also a good way for me to gauge if the Chinese claypots dishes are authentic & true to their hearts.

grand park orchard open house claypot review
While the Old Cucumber Soup was flavourful, I felt it needed more time in the cooking process as the peanuts were not soft enough. I’d also placed my orders for the Assam Fish & Sea Cucumber. 4 claypot dishes may seemed a lot for just the two of us, but the quantity of food were actually very small portions.

grand park orchard open house claypot sea cucumber
To be able to sustain the affordable All-You-Can-Eat Dinner price of just SGD 33+++, down-sizing the food portion is certainly one of the brilliant ways to maintain the economical price.

grand park orchard open house claypot assam fish
Both the Assam Fish & Sea Cucumber dishes were top-notch! The Assam Fish was tender, vegetables were soft, & the gentle heat from the spices made the rich & creamy assam dish even more alluring. ★★★★★

grand park orchard open house claypot sea cucumber reviews
The Sea Cucumber was another worth mentioning. The well-executed braised claypot dish, accompanied by my favourite pork belly & Chinese mushrooms was an excellent marriage. ★★★★★

grand park orchard open house claypot beef brisket review
Flavours were gently coaxed into this Beef Brisket Claypot. The meat was succulent, the radish cubes were appetizing, & sauce was thick & tasty. ★★★★★

grand park orchard open house claypot rice
Love the piping hot clapot dishes prepared live upon our orders, & they even cooked the rice from scratch; a visual feast that pleases the palate with an explosion of flavour.

grand park orchard hotel open house laksa review
The Laksa is also one of Open House’s signature dishes. Rich, fragrant & mouth-watering, the Laksa is a must-try! ★★★★★

grand park orchard hotel open house dim sum station
Next, we hopped on to the Dim-Sum station, picking just the Siew Mai. The dumplings were plumpy & juicy as you can see from the pix above. ★★★★☆

grand park orchard hotel open house dessert buffet
The chic cafe also has a huge array of colourful desserts.

grand park orchard hotel open house assorted desserts
Hubby went for the Assorted Desserts & Durian Pengat! If you must know, Durian is forbidden in my home & I’m one of those who simply can’t stand the pungent smell. While Ken commented that the Durian dessert was rich & aromatic, I’ve to admit the smell was too over-whelming for me when he was eating just next to me. Arrrgh!!

grand park orchard hotel open house ice-cream
Well, I’d my fair share of Ice-cream with a slice of Green Tea Chestnut Cake. The name had caught my attention, but it was too sweet for my liking. ★★★☆☆

Overall, Ken & I had a good dining experience. Quality of food was good; service was impeccable & the dining room staff was calmly professional. What I like is that their restaurant managers actually took effort in mingling with their diners, & not just our table. Every now & then, I saw them chatting with the guests without any pretentious. ★★★★★

Hotel's main selling point is live stations, & we were simply amazed with the SGD 33+++ All-You-Can-Eat Dinner price tag in a 5-star hotel! I often have breakfast at places like Hyatt & Shangri-la just before my spa, & their buffet will set me back by about SGD 40 & that’s just breakfast! It’s almost impossible to find such attractive & affordable prices like the #OpenHouse in Singapore, especially in the heart of #Orchard Road. Wow!
grand park orchard hotel open house dining
The stylish open-dining concept restaurant generates a good daily crowd, mainly from their regular pool of diners. The crowd started streaming in soon after we settled in comfortably. It’s their economical price, coupled with good food & the limitless variety that keeps the local palates curious & clamouring for more.

This Father’s Day, Open House at #GrandParkOrchard supplements an All-You-Can-Eat Local High Tea extravaganza on 16 June 2013 with tantalising #Peranakan highlights.
grand park orchard hotel fathers day promo
At Open House, watch chefs in action as they skilfully knead out freshly-made pizzas over a beech wood-fire oven; tend tirelessly over simmering claypot specialties; show off their finesse for timing & control at the noodles station; & dedicatedly watch over steaming baskets of dim sum, all prepared à la minute to a pinnacle of freshness for your dining pleasure.

Signatures of the Father’s Day All-You-Can-Eat High Tea include delectable Peranakan delicacies like the piquant Ayam Buah Keluak, Kueh Pie Tee, Nyonya Curry Noodles, & Coconut & Plum Sugar Pancakes. Non-traditionalists will clamour for the thin-crust, wood-fired Otak Otak Pizza cooked over a Western Beech oven. Some of the chef’s perennial favourites like the Spicy Assam Fish, Bak Kut Teh, & Braised Sea Cucumber with Mushroom & Pork will be making a grand entrance to tempt taste-buds. End the meal with enticing desserts of Durian Pengat, Bread & Butter Pudding, Assorted Nyonya Kueh, Banana & Pandan Cakes on top of the toothsome traditional snack of Muah Chee.

After the sumptuous feast, diners will be ushered to a fashion-inspired pop-up boutique at the Presidential Suite for a curated shopping experience exclusively tailored to bring the ultimate gentleman’s essentials to dads for a truly transformative experience or make-over into “Mr Dapper Dad”.

  8. Replies
    1. Kathy, chk it out the next time u're in SG :)

  9. I am not a huge fan of buffet, too because I think they are too expensive for the quantity I eat plus there is always a possibility of cross contamination for allergic people.
Once again, thanks for bringing such a great giveaway for dads. They do deserve something like this.

    1. Bal, hahaha! Good point, I've never thought of that. Happy Father's Day to your family, dear!
