DIY Plastic Flowers + Beaded Accessories Giveaway!

Can you tell what this stalk of Carnation is made from?
mothers day diy plastic carnation flower facebook
I posted the above teaser some time ago on Facebook, & I’ve answers like paper, plastic, edible plastic etc. And most of you got it right – it’s made from those plastic bags from food stalls in the market. But you can use almost all kinds of materials to make these flowers. Mom used plastic bags, paper wrappers & even #styrofoam!

diy kitchen tips recycle plastic bags
Some months back, I also talked about Kitchen Tips To Store Your Messy Plastic Bags, using them for our trash disposal & how you can store them neatly. With this tutorial which I'm gonna show you, you'll be able to #recycle these plastic bags into beautiful flowers too!

When mom showed me her latest craft using these bags, I was amazed & wanted to pick up the skill too. She said it’s real easy, & that motivated me even more! Now, watch the clip below; she’s gonna show you the steps:

Steps to Flower Crafts:
  1. Cut the plastic bags into 6” x 4” rectangles. Adjust the sizes according to size preferences. You may use just 1 sheet to fold it outwards, or……Stack up a few sheets for thicker effects.
  2. Next, flip the sheet over; the fold is now at the top.
  3. Turn the fold downwards & repeat the steps until the end; just like you’re folding a paper fan in zig-zag pattern.
  4. Snip off both ends like a sharp arrow pointing upwards for a #Carnation.

  6. Or, cut it round if you wanna make a #Rose. See the difference?
  7. Use a string or wire to tie in the middle.
  8. If you want the flower to look prettier, add the pollen by tying it together with the wire at this point.
  9. Open up the flower by pulling the sheet apart.
  10. Here's your beautiful stalk of Rose!
  11. Add leaves to beautify your flower :)

The flowers are gorgeous; no one would've expected it to be made out of plastic bags until they've touched it. I didn't know that it was made by your Mom. =)

  27. Your mother sure has a pair of hands made for crafting! Gosh, even my grandmother who's now 70 has a good craftsmanship. As a youngster I feel ashamed 'coz I don't have that kind of skill. I'd love to have your mother's creations ;D I love them! If I win, I'm going to give the necklace to my grandmother so we'll have the different thing from the same set. ;D It's like a couple thingy right? ;P
Anyway, I absolutely loved the tutorial. I've made some from unused papers, but I didn't think of using plastic bags!! I'll try it now ;D
