Invitation To OpenRice Cooking Event At De Dietrich

openrice cooking event at de dietrich
It was an afternoon of culinary delights for #OpenRicers @ La Galerie De Dietrich.
japanese cooking demo at de dietrich
I've heard so much about De Dietrich cooking studio, so I was over the moon when OpenRice invited me for the Modern Japanese Cooking Demo by Chef Tadashi Takahashi of Hashi Japanese Restaurant.

The event kicked off with the host of #DeDietrich introducing the OpenRicers to their cooking studio.

I got lucky! I got to try out the art of slicing the perfect piece of Sashimi by the Chef himself! Click on the 'arrow' to watch me in action!

After that, we learnt how to make the Japanese Shiso Sauce for the appetizer. Honestly, I'm not a fan of Shiso but surprisingly, the sauce was very refreshing and not too overpowering at all. It was an interesting alternative to the usual Wasabi with Shoyu.

beef sirloin using de dietrich induction hub
The Beef Sirloin was already marinated in Miso beforehand. Chef Takahashi used the De Dietrich induction hob to sauté the beef, sliced them and then popped them into the oven to cook again.

how to make japanese sakura mochi
For the finale, we got to learn how to make the Japanese Sakura Mochi. It was my first time eating mochi made from glutinuous rice. Those that I often see in Japan are of a smooth texture unlike this one. I like how the Sakura leaf gave a scented flavour to the dessert. For recipe, pls visit Japanese Sakura Mochi Recipe (桜餅)!

The cooking demo ended with De Dietrich giving the participants goodie bags.

  6. This is really interesting. And i'm looking forward to the mochi recipe. I have done mochi with cooked glutinuous rice flour before,(not easy to get this flour, usually available only during mooncake festival because it's the same flour they use for making snow skin mooncake) but i'm not sure if it's the same.

  8. Did you make any dishes yourself? I often go to these classes and then appreciate even more how much work goes into the dish so am even happier to leave it to the experts than to do it myself :-)
