Shop Till You Drop At Dongdaemun (东大门), Korea!

Day 2 (continued):
After my Outlet Shopping in Seoul, my next destination was Dongdaemun (东大门). Fashion districts such as Myeong-dong (明洞) & Dongdaemun Market offer great clothes & accessories. If you wanna experience the meaning of 'shop till you drop dead', Seoul is a good city to start with.

With the enormous wholesale clothing markets concentrated in the Dongdaemun area, the shopping paradise is one of Korea's leading shopping centres. Thousands of small stores set in large modern malls are open until daybreak, so you can shop all through the night!

Over here, shops are filled with intricately accessories. Colourful & endlessly fascinating. This place sells all kinds of knick-knacks, from clothes to quirky souvenirs.
Usually open 24-hours, the streets Dongdaemun Market are lined with a variety of shopping malls specializing in both wholesale & retail sales, where things come alive after dark.

After 10pm, the Open Market in Dongdaemun boasts endless rows of yellow tents selling clothes, leather goods, glasses, shoes, bags & other accessories at discounted prices. The market gets even busier as the clock strikes midnight. If you’re shopping midnight, you may wanna use the Int’l Call Taxis (1644-2255), as public transit services stop running around 11:30pm.

Another place for luxury shopping is Doota in Dongdaemun. The modern mall is full of inviting shops selling a colourful array of clothing, shoes & accessories.

Can you recognize the pink cap that I bought in Myeong-dong?

Doota boasts top quality goods at attractively low prices. With all 9 floors offering imported goods, casual wear, fashion accessories, footwear etc, you'll soon run out of stamina.

Bling-bling! Knitted wear is in the trend now! Love the colours & the glitters of these two knitted tops!

The more premium floor is on the 3rd level, where you can find shops selling authentic designer brands like Dior, Ferragamo, Burberry, Armani etc.

Fall in love with one of the newest collection from iconic designer, My Ferragamo from Salvatore Ferragamo. The glossy patent leather, My Charm Nero, comes with a nice ornament plate, stylishly scripted with "Ferragamo".

Did I tell you that I'm a huge fan of Ferragamo too? This pair of pumps is attractively priced at only 350,000KRW; S'pore is selling at about S$500! On top of that, you can get 7% tax rebate off the goods you buy in Korea. Be sure to check out this luxury level when you visit Seoul next time.

Well, it was dinner time again. This round, I was off to savour my No. 1 fave Korean Cuisine - Samgyetang (参雞湯), the Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup @ Baekje Samgyetang (百濟參雞湯).

How To Get There:
• Near Exit #14, Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, Subway Line 2, 4, & 5
• Near Exit #8 or #9, Dongdaemun Station, Subway Line 1, & 4

  5. What a paradise for shopping. Seems like I want to buy everything from the luxury products, accessories and shoes too. I can see you had a great time on the shopping. If I travel to Korea, I will just carry an empty suitcase or better go with only the passport and plenty of cash and come with loaded with all the goodies.

  8. Ooooo Shirley omg! OK those Feregammo flats are only USD $297...plus an additional 7% rebate? OMG I need to go to SEOUL NOW.... The shopping looks even more lively thank HK and I didn't even think it is possible!! TO answer your question, yes the petit bucket bag does come with the chained pouchette. That was part of the reason why I felt like $860 in 2006 for that bag was 'reasonable.'

    1. Bessie, looks like everyone here is going wild even w/o going to Seoul. Hahaha! Just $860?? What a deal! The pouchette alone is already $350!

    1. Hi Audrey, apology for my late reply as I'm now in Penang reviewing couple of hotels. When you're in Dongdaemun, there's quite a few big malls side by side for you to shop besides Doota. Those pix u see above were all taken in the Dongdaemun area. I'm sure you'll be spoilt for choice. Enjoy your trip & do click on the tab under "My Foot Prints" at the top of my blog for other areas to shop + my posts for outlets malls. Have fun!
